I always loved photos of rats holding teddy bears or other doll props, and wanted to make my amigurumi version. The construction of these guys lent itself to the hooded color pattern - but of course they would look just as good from a solid color! You can choose between standard ears and dumbo ears, and whether to give them a miniature teddy bear to cuddle or a peanut to snack on.

The pattern is available with both right-handed and left-handed illustrations (in two separate pdf files).

Size
About 12.5 cm/5” tall if made with DK yarn, 15 cm/6” from worsted weight

Tools and materials for the rat:
~ DK or worsted weight yarn in 3 colors: hood color, white, and pink
~ 3mm (approx. US size C) hook if using DK yarn, 3.5mm (US size E) for worsted weight; or size that gives you a tight, no-gaps fabric
~ small amount of weighting material (suggestion: fish tank gravel, or plastic pellets for doll weighting)
~ black plastic safety eyes (7.5mm diameter if using DK yarn, 8mm for worsted)
~ fiberfill stuffing
~ stitch marker, pair of scissors, pair of tweezers, yarn needle, pins
~ optional, for whiskers: nylon monofilament sewing thread (or fishing line) in white/clear or black, and a sewing needle

Additionally, for the teddy bear:
~ yarn in 2 shades of brown (or color of your choice)
~ 3 black beads for the eyes and nose (3mm diameter for DK yarn, 4mm for worsted weight)
~ thread and a small needle to attach the beads

Additionally, for the peanut:
~ beige and reddish brown yarn

Difficulty
This pattern is suitable for intermediate level crocheters who are confident with basic stitches and frequently used amigurumi techniques (ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, invisible decrease, magic ring, working in BLO, color change).

The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology (UK/Aus equivalents provided). It contains many in-progress photos, but also includes a text-only appendix for easy printing, if you prefer working from a printed pattern but want to save ink and paper.
