This cowl is knit flat starting with a provisional cast on and then seamed using grafting (kitchener stitch) using size 9 needles (5.5 mm) with heavy worsted weight yarn. The width is 11 inches wide and 60 inches long (after wet blocking and seaming). The hood is created by mattress-stitch seaming 7 inches of the folded cowl.

My gauge was 4 stitches per inch, so my width was 11 inches wide after casting on 44 stitches. The row gauge is less important as you make it the length you want it. I used 484 yards of worsted-weight yarn, but any weight yarn could be used if you adjust the number cast on by increments of 2. (Cast on should be an even number.)
