This is the very first pattern in the Hook ‘n’ Learn blanket crochet-along in Simply Crochet magazine. Perfect for beginners and fun for more experienced stitchers, over the next year you’ll learn how to do 12 attractive stitches, then we’ll show you how to put it all together in the last issue.

Choose between the beautiful soft shades of Stone Washed XL, or the bright tones of Colour Crafter (or go mad and make both!). Block stitch is the perfect stitch for newbies to master – it’s simple to learn and looks fab worked in two zingy colours, whichever yarn you choose.

You can see the finished blanket, in both the muted Stone Washed and the bright Colour Crafter shades, in the photos on the left.

There’s an update to the finished sizes of the squares as printed in issue 68 - the Stone Washed XL square is correct at 40x40cm, but the Colour Crafter square should be worked until it measures 32cm so the finished size is 32x32cm.
