The Hope hat is a cabled hat knit in three steps. First, the cabled band is knit to fit the head circumference. Then stitches are picked up along the top edge of the cabled band to knit the crown, and along the bottom edge to knit the cuff. This gives plenty of flexibility in the final sizing. Gauge here is approximate. I designed the hat to be knit in cotton, as the original was knit for a friend undergoing chemotherapy, and I wanted it to be soft and comfortable when directly in contact with her skin, but the pattern is suitable for any worsted weight yarn.
