This PDF pattern is written in English for intermediate knitters knitting flat on two needles. It comes in two parts:

  1. General instructions, which include: Body and leg variations, assembly instructions, special stitch and technique instructions
  2. Specific animal instructions for shaping animal heads and tails, and adding animal-specific details

The horse is fairly easy. You can choose to make it all in one color, change the color of just the mane and tail, or add patches and other markings using duplicate stitch on the body, head, and legs. You can also choose between crochet chain loop or fringe stitches for the mane.

You need to have…
• Yarn in desired color and weight (~3oz/75g for sport weight; ~12oz/300g for worsted)
• Dark contrast yarn for eyes and nose
• Knitting needles at the size recommended for the yarn you’ll use (for the tail) and at least 2 sizes smaller (for everything else)
• Stuffing
• Tapestry needle

You need to know (or learn)…
• Stockinette stitch
• Increase and decrease stitches
• Crochet chain loops or fringe stitch
• Mattress stitch for sewing seams
• Swiss darning or duplicate stitch (optional)
