Textured Blocks Blanket (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Yarn)

I had a bunch of blanket yarn left over from another frogged project that I decided to turn into its namesake. However, when I would settle on a pattern, I found myself unable to concentrate long enough to remember where I had left off. The ongoing stress from the news covering the Pandemic and All The Rest of It had evidently turned my brain into Swiss cheese. I just wanted something simple to knit while watching TV, and I needed busy hands to keep the doom scrolling on Twitter to a minimum.

I settled on using the classic Grandmother’s favourite dishcloth pattern as a recipe to develop a blanket pattern that had just enough interest to keep me focused without being too complex. The different blocks also give you something to look forward to, which is a feeling I sorely missed in 2020. The end result is a lovely, squishy and textured blanket with a wonderful drape that can stretch to fit your entire body so you can hunker down to face 2021 in comfort.

Because this pattern is more of a recipe, you can easily adapt it to any size you like, and even include more than one colour yarn if you wish! Gauge isn’t too important either, which is why I have not noted it in the pattern.

I look forward to seeing what you will come up with. Happy knitting!
