Hue Shift is a modern modular crochet shawl pattern built from long, lace panels that are joined as you go. The flexible, panel-based construction makes it easy to customize – so you can create anything from a narrow belt or scarf to a wide wrap, shawl, throw, or placemat.

The sample shown is designed as a wearable wrap, sized for my height and fit. It features four sections and measures approximately 180 cm / 70.9 in long and 55 cm / 21.7 in wide. You can style the shawl in multiple ways, with or without a belt or shawl pins.

Yarn & Gauge

This pattern works beautifully with almost any yarn, so you can easily use what you have or create your own unique color palette.

For my sample, I used a fingering weight hand-dyed yarn – Single Sock Superwash Merino by Hue Loco – in 10 shades to create a smooth hue-shift effect. I paired it with a 2.5 mm (C-2) hook and got a gauge of 22 dc and 10 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).

The pattern includes detailed yarn requirements broken down by color and by section if you would like to recreate the original colorway. This information can also serve as a guide for proportioning if you choose to use your own yarn combinations. You can find a visual reference for this in one of the listing photos.

In addition, the pattern includes a detailed color layout showing how each color is distributed across the sections.
