Pattern for a little hug monster I’d like to call ‘Hug me or else’ (because it starts eating chocolate paste from the jar and calling in the middle of the night with a rendition of ‘All by myself’ if you don’t hug it enough).

Made with 1cm (0.4inch) wide strips of t-shirt yarn and a 5mm hook, the monster will be 8-10 cm / 3-4 inches high and 10 cm / 4 inches wide. Of course you are welcome to make it in any other type of yarn (or zpagetti)! If you use an old shirt, you’ll need only one. You also need a yarn needle for sewing the arms and eyes onto the body, and two buttons, beads or metal rings for the eyes.

This pattern requires knowledge of:

  • sc, incr/decr
  • ss
  • joining and working in the round
  • magic loop

and is suitable for advanced beginners. It features detailed instructions as well as pictures. And a few jokes.

This design is part of the MonstrosiTees Series. MonstrosiTees are dolls, but not amigurumi; they’re the antigurumi, if you will. They are imperfect and proud of it. They’re entirely made out of repurposed materials and the love, time and effort you invest in them will show in every irregular stitch. Hopefully, they’ll put a smile on your face and show you that with a bit of creativity, any throwaway item can become something new and cherishable!

Have fun:).
