This pattern is knit from a chart but has a few written instructions to start and finish. It starts with 68 stitches, goes up to 90 stitches and then casts off 20 stitches for the thumb hole. There are extra rows on the top and bottom that can be made into a pretty picot edge. You can finish the thumb in either knit or crochet. As long as each skein is 50 grams, you should have some leftover after you finish with both mittens.
