Humphrey the Humpback Whale
Humphrey is a big whale toy knitted for hugs! This whale is worked in stockinette stitch with increases and decreases for shaping. This big toy is knit in DK weight yarns … if you wanted to super-size your whale you could follow this pattern using a larger needle and a chunkier yarn to make a bigger ocean friend.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the whale is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). The lip piece is an i-cord tube which is worked on two double pointed needles (DPNs).
NEEDLES:
A pair each of 3.25mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 3).
RECOMMENDED YARN:
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/280m skein in each colour.
NOTIONS:
Tapestry needle, toy filling, toy safety eyes, lockable stitch markers, a stitch holder and a tape measure.
SIZES:
One size only - 55cm long.

For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
