In 2013, I fell in love with two baby blankets, both soft-draping, patterned and lacy. The first one was the Yarn Harlot’s Baby Blanket completed in October 2013 and the second was the blanket Prince George had been swaddled in when he left the maternity hospital earlier that year. Sadly neither has an available pattern: the first was a special gift and SPMcP didn’t publish her design so she could keep it unique, whilst the second was a mass-produced, manufactured blanket.

So, in Jan 2014, I decided to craft my own. My blanket took approximately 1645 yards of fingering, size 3.25mm needles, a huge amount of purl and lace and looked like a string bag when it was finished, or at least until it experienced the magic of a soak in bath and a stretch on a big bed - but hey, a lot of us are like that!

Meanwhile, I have had several requests for the pattern; so here it is untested except by me but free.

However, if you like it enough to download it, please let me know (nicely otherwise I’ll sob loudly) how it goes for you, I shall look for your help to make this easier for others.

Secondly, please pay it forward … if you enjoyed my little gift to you then pass the happiness on; smile at a stranger, donate something to charity - whether that’s passing your defunct stuff on to your local charity store, or popping some coins to your charity of choice, but a random act of kindness makes the world a nicer place.

Thirdly, if the purl and lace get to you - don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Hugs
