About a year ago, my daughter Dami introduced me to the musical Hamilton. We are both huge fans of musicals. I quickly embraced the fast-sung (and rapped) lyrics and the powerful beat.

When Michelle of Berry Colorful Yarnings and I talked about creating a kit together, Dami suggested something Hamilton inspired. Michelle came up with a three colour self-striping yarn to represent the Schuyler Sisters.

The Design - The design is a lace pattern that reminds me of the dresses that the characters, especially the Schuyler sisters, wear in Hamilton. The design finishes with 5/16” (8mm) pearl buttons centred on the back of the leg of the sock like the row of buttons on dresses of that time period.

Grab your yarn, needles, and look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. Happy Knitting!

These socks are knit using the magic loop method (although the purchaser could easily adapt it for two circulars or double points).

This pattern includes toe-up instructions.

Judy’s Magic Cast On and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off are used in this pattern.

The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, k2tog, ktbl, M1L, M1R, SK2P, ssk, W+T, slipping stitches, and passing slipped stitches over. Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern. In addition, a video tutorial for the shadow wrap technique of W+T for short rows has been recorded by the designer.

This pattern includes instructions in both written and chart forms for 56 stitch, 64 stitch, and 72 stitch socks.

I’d like to express my immense gratitude to Lin-Manuel Miranda, and everyone affiliated with the production of Hamilton for their entertaining work. This design would never have been possible without their inspiration.

Huge thanks to my amazing test knitters: Andrea (angeiship), Ann (roocmc), Ashleah (a1dawen), Carolyn (craftypw), Jennifer (Initsox2), Kim (Napiersknits), Laurel (laurelemilyloves), & Lizi (Lizicee). ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Pattern was tech edited by the phenomenal Rachel (porpoise) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Sample was knit by the brilliant Dami (damisdoodles) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
