When you can’t look on the bright side, I will sit with you in the dark. – anonymous

When my daughter was a small child in elementary school, she would come home from school and say, “Susan said this or Susan did that” and I would say “Who’s Susan?” and she would tell me “I sit with her at lunch.”

So, one day, I decided to investigate by peeking into the lunchroom at her school and there sat my daughter at a special table with Susan, who was in a wheelchair and had a lot of trouble eating. I left quickly but later I asked her: “Tell me about Susan.” And her reply was “No one will sit with her, so I do.” Ah – from the mouths of children come the best lessons.

Let’s practice this together – “I will sit with you.”

SIZE: One Size - however, feel free to use a different weight of yarn and make your shawl smaller or larger respectively. There are also notes in the pattern for how to make the shawl longer - however, this will require extra yarn. Even though this is a multi-purpose item and fit doesn’t have to be precise, be sure and achieve gauge. Failure to do so will change yarn requirements.

SAMPLE was knit using two skeins, 427 yards, of Toad Hollow Superwash Merino (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon) 231 yds/100 g. (weighing 205 grams including the large tassels; 185 g without) in the colorway Alice.

This shawl is very thematic in nature but I want the knitter to feel the sentiment -- to see it in the stitches.

Sections 1 & 5 represents long rows of people sitting together at tables. ( ee photos on left)

Sections 2 & 4 turns things on end and has groupings of 4 friends at small tables knitting together.

Section 3 is a visual representation of coming together to sit at tables with new friends.

I hope you will go along for this journey.
