Ice cream makes everything better, right? This turtle certainly thinks so! The removable hat makes him ready to party! He’s equally adorable with a non-ice cream plain shell if you’re just looking for a basic turtle pattern. :) He’s a nice size: about 6” (15 cm) from nose to tail, and 5” (12.5 cm) tall.

It helps to have some experience making amigurumi toys to complete him successfully, but he is doable for a confident beginner. If you can crochet in continuous rounds using a magic ring and know basic stitches, you shouldn’t have any trouble. Each piece is crocheted in the round, then sewn together. I’ve included lots of photos to help you along the way.

You can use any worsted-weight yarn you’d like, and it doesn’t take much of each color--less than half of a 3.5-oz skein of each color. As such, he’s a great stash buster! The party hat takes an optional small hair elastic for the chin strap, but you can also just use yarn instead.
