This pattern was designed for a Hospital Charity Project that provided hats for babies born prematurely to wear when they finally left the hospital for home. I was knitting for the charity in 2008 and was bored with the basic hat patterns provided to us. I saw a picture of a little ruffled hat and was inspired to design a similar shape for a knitted hat. It was created to fit a newborn…even preemie…sized little noggin. This Charity Project asked for hats to fit a grapefruit (14” circumference) sized head. You can always make adjustments to fit larger heads, but I have no calculations worked out for that here. Make it your own!!
