The Ice Mountain Triangle pattern is worked in-the-round from the center out and creates a single equilateral triangle with an original brioche cabled stitch motif. While this pattern does require attention it is also a fun smaller project that introduces a number of techniques.

The pattern was named for Ice Mountain, which is one of the peaks in the Three Apostles formation in Colorado, USA.

Although the sample knit was used for a wall hanging, this pattern may be used to create cushions, as a single block in a knitted blanket or for whatever purpose you please!

Brioche is a very flexible stitch that works well with many different fiber types and weights, so please experiment to achieve a result you love!

Pattern is provided in written and chart form. Also provided are links to video demonstrations for the cast-on and the brioche left and right two-stitch decreases, the brioche left and right star stitches, and the brioche left and right cable stitches.

Finished Size:
An equilateral triangle with sides of 14 in/35.6 cm

Gauge
25 rounds and 90 stitches are approximately 4 in/10.2 cm and 14 in/35.6 cm after blocking (this is equivalent to one side of the triangle).

Gauge is very important if working to the 14 in/35.6 cm specification but may be adjusted as desired to fit a custom size.

Recommended Materials
___________________________

Yarn
Any fingering or sock weight yarn in two colors, approximately 87 yards/80 meters per color.

Sample was knit using Malabrigo Sock Yarn 440 yards/402 meters/100 g (100% Superwash Merino) in the Jasmine colorway for the light color and the Fiona colorway for the dark color.

Needles
US Size 1.5/2.5 mm DPNs or three 14 in/35 cm or longer circulars, or one 40 in/100 cm or longer circular for magic loop, or size needed to obtain gauge.

While a single circular needle may be used for magic loop, it is recommended that 4 DPNs or 3 circular needles be used (one for each side of the triangle) to avoid the need to rearrange stitches between needles when working the brioche pattern.

Notions

  • scissors
  • tapestry needle
  • stitch markers, including a contrast marker for the beginning of round

Optional Notion
* An equilateral triangle frame 14 in/35.6 cm to a side. The frame may be sourced wherever available. I purchased mine from UnfetteredCo’s etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/UnfetteredCo).
