In the past Icelanders knit lace wraps in both triangular and rectangular shapes. The rectangular shawls were called Langsjol, or long shawl. This modern version showcases a variety of Icelandic lace stitches.

Knit from end to end, it starts with a chevron lace border that can include bands of color. Then simple spider lace repeats over eight rows to the ending border. Both borders can be finished with optional crocheted chain loops. The lace can be knit from written instructions or charts.

Designed for Icelandic Einband lace weight yarn, it is easy to customize the size to make a wider wrap or narrower scarf in other yarns, such as fingering, Shetland, sport, and DK weights.
