Worked in two colors of worsted-weight wool, the Icy Stripes Hat & Mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up. Two different methods are given for working jogless stripes.

Yarn Weight 4

Finished Size Hat: 18 (19¾, 23½)“ circumference and 8 (9, 10)” tall. Hat shown measures 19¾“ circumference. Mitts: 8 (8¾)” hand circumference and 7 (8)“ long. Mitts shown measure 8” circumference.

Yarn Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok (100% fine highland wool; 123 yd 112 m/1¾ oz 50 g): #1321 Loon Lake (dark blue; MC), 1 skein each for hat or mitts; #1324 Morning Frost (light blue; CC), 1 skein will make both hat and mitts.

Needles Sizes 6 (4 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm): 16” circular (cir) and set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); waste yarn for mitt thumb; tapestry needle.

Gauge 20 sts and 30 rnds = 4” in St st on larger needle.

NOTES

  • The hat and mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up in helical stripes. Either method for jogless stripes may be used, but instructions are written for the first method. Thumb stitches are worked in waste yarn and picked up later.
