Construction
The Ilana Sweater is knitted from top to bottom. First you work the back until underarms. Then pick up stitches on each shoulder and work the front flat until underarms. After that you join the front and back and work the body in the round.
Sleeve stitches are picked up from the armhole. First, the sleeves are worked flat using German short rows to continue the shoulder bevel, the working in the round to the end.
Neck stitches are picked up along the neckline in the end or when the back and front parts are ready.

YARN
Original yarn: Lanecardate Donegal tweed,
this is the same yarn that used in Lamana Como Tweed skeins, 131 yards (120 meters) / 25 g.

For size 1 (2) 3 without changes you need approx.
11 (13) 15 skeins;
1441 (1703) 1965 yards/ 1320 (1560) 1800 meters

Other tweed options: Rowan Valley Tweed, Lang Yarns Donegal, Isager Tweed, Majo Tweed Supreme (for a light spring version).

Non-tweed: Lamana Como, Sunday knits Eden 3ply, Lang Yarns Cashmere Premium, Cardiff Cashmere Classic, Filcolana Pernilla.

NEEDLES

  • US 1 (2,5 mm) circular needles 15¾” (40 cm) length cable for the neckline and 31½” (80 cm) length cable for ribbing in the sleeves and body.
  • US 4 (3,5 mm) circular needles 31½” (80 cm) length cable for the main part.

GAUGE (after washing and blocking)
26 stitches x 33 rows = 4” (10 cm) in the cable stitch on US 4 (3,5 mm) size needles.
