Knit this hood on the framework of the Three Sisters One shawl! A little creative finishing creates an asymmetric pointed goblin hood scarf from the base triangle scarf with murky grey-yellow stripes. Even though it’s not much more effort than knitting the basic scarf/shawl, there’s more to it than just simple seaming.

This design makes a decent showcase for good yarn scraps. Choose a full skein of main color and 1-3 contrast colors: as shown, this scarf uses Cascade Yarns Heritage Sock in Steel/5602 for the MC, and an average .5 mini-skein’s worth each of Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Ochre, Frank Ochre, and Chircas. The hood finishing took a very minimal amount of Frank Ochre—maybe 15 yards.

Materials:

  • 1 skein of MC Cascade Yarns Heritage Sock in 5602/Steel, and ~40 yds each of Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Ochre, Frank Ochre, and Chircas (CC1, CC2, CC3), plus 10-20 yards for finishing, or up to * 140 yds CC.
  • 1 36-60” circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge
  • Optional: 2 DPNs in the same size, to be used for i-cord bindoff
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is 26 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm in blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.
