In Stitches is an easy but satisfying pattern for a pair of slipped stitch colourwork fingerless mitts. The mitts are worked in the round using either dpns or magic loop. The colourwork pattern is easy to learn and would be ideal for someone who wants to try colourwork for the first time as you only work with one colour per round.

The mitts have an afterthought thumb - a link to a tutorial is included in the pattern.

This would be a great pattern for using up small amounts of different coloured DK or sport weight yarn from your stash. You can use as much or as little contrast colour as you like - one, two, three or even 6 different colours! Have a look at the test knit project pages for the different colours that have been used so far.

Sizing -

Adult Small (Medium, Large): 18.5cm/7.25” (20cm/8”, 22cm/8.75”) around knuckles with 1.25cm/0.5” positive ease.
Length: 17cm/6.75”. If you would like a longer length, just add an extra colourwork section. (This will affect your yardage requirements).

Yarn

Rowan Felted Tweed
Main Colour (MC): 125 yards/115m
Contrast Colour 1 (CC1): 18 yards/17m
Contrast Colour 2 (CC2): 18 yards/17m
Contrast Colour 3 (CC3): 9 yards/8.5m
Contrast Colour 4 (CC4): 9 yards/8.5m
You can substitute other DK/Sport weight yarns to achieve gauge. If you change the amount of contrast colours used, you will need to adjust the yardage you need for that colour - you need around 9 yards/8.5m for each section.

Needles and notions

3.25mm (US 3) circular needle at least 32” length for magic loop or same size double pointed needles
3.5mm (US 4) circular needle or dpns as above
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker (optional)
Small piece of scrap yarn

Gauge

30 sts and 38 rows to 10cm / 4” in slipped stitch pattern.
