Alnus incana rugosa is a species of tree in the birch family, which ranges widely across North America. Grey or speckled alder, as it is known, is found below the tree line in much of Canada, including Southern Alberta. Grey alder provides cover and grazing for subalpine wildlife and its seeds provide forage for birds. The ovoid shape of the Grey Alder’s leaves is the inspiration for the lace motifs on this cowl.

Errata: There was an error in the written instructions only for Lace Motif A in version 1.0 (thanks r/jotip for letting me know). Please download and use version 1.1 if you are working from the written instructions.
