Intermediate crochet pattern for a soft women’s crochet shawl written in English, created over simple rows using a variety of crochet stitches. I’ve also included a link to a video tutorial for some of the more unusual stitches, so that you can crochet with confidence throughout.

This elegant crochet shawl combines both lace and solid rows. It is fine enough to be worn on special occasions, or else as a pretty handmade scarf for every day use.

The beaded edging (optional) adds a unique finishing touch. I used wooden beads for the cream version as pictured. For a more formal crochet shawl you could try using glass beads or even sequins.

I guarantee that once you try it, this will become one of your favourite projects. It would also make a lovely stashbuster scarf by changing colour every row.

• 300g/1000m/1090yds DROPS Uni Colour Alpaca* in shade Ivory 100 - each ball 50g/167m/182yds (substitute with any soft heavy Sport weight yarn with similar yardage)

• Size E4 (3.5mm) hook
• finest crochet hook (0.75mm) for adding beads (optional)
• Approx 50x small wooden beads for yarn (optional)
