Infinity Sox
Infinity is a scrap-yarn sock and she is your chance to use up those tiny pieces of sock yarn that you have at home, and at the same time make an arty sock with attitude. The sock is worked from the top-down in stocking stitch, with a 2X2 ribbed cuff, a small heel gusset and an afterthought heel. Toe and heel are finished with grafting (aka Kitchener stitch).
The whole construction of the sock is with sustainability in mind. Using scrap yarn goes without saying. The afterthought heel and toe are easily replaced when needed, and the framing colour makes it easy to remove a block that is torn and replace it with another colour by reknitting and grafting. In that way it is a magic sock that will last forever, renewed block by block in eternity.
So check your stash, get your needles and start knitting your own pair of Infinities!
Yarn and colours
You need fingering weight yarn (approx. 400m per 100g) suitable for socks, in a lot of different colours, preferably scrap yarn.
In total you need approx. 65-85g / 2.3-3.0 oz. or 260-340m/285-371 yd. for a pair of socks. You need approx. 3-11g / 0.1-0.4 oz. for each colour block and 12g / 0.4 oz. of your Frame colour (black in sample).
Needles and notions:
A 2.5 mm or US size 1 ½ 5-needle set of DPNs or a circular needle for magic loop, or size to obtain gauge.
A 5-needle set of DPNs a size smaller for picking up stitches at the heel. (optional)
Approx. 60cm / 25” of a smooth, strong waste-yarn (preferably cotton) in a similar weight to your sock yarn, and in a noticeably different colour than your Frame Colour.
