This extraordinary blanket is inspired by angels, medieval art and birds. Since 2005 I’ve been painting angels. How wonderful would it be to design a crocheted angel blanket and so I decided to go for it. It turned out to be quite a challenge and great fun.

I feel very fortunate my wonderful testing team enthusiastically accepted to join me in this exciting adventure. They created the most beautiful versions of the angel. It is amazing and interesting to see how everyone interpreted the pattern in their own way.

The angel has a halo and her face is surrounded by colourful flowers with pompoms. In her hands she holds a white dove and a string of flowers is draped over her wrists. The dress flows out in circles, emanating over the bottom of the blanket.

The face, hands and the dove are crocheted in sc stitches and then embroidered with cross stitches. This is not difficult to do. Some parts are sewn onto the blanket.
The pattern gives precise step-by-step instructions and photo tutorials.
There is also a print friendly pdf available.

Measurements are approximately 89 x 57 inch / 227 x 145 cm.

The blanket is made with Stylecraft Special DK acrylic yarn. But you can choose any yarn you like for this project as long as the yarn is not too heavy, because the blanket would then become too large.

Stitches used in this pattern are: sc, hdc, dc, trc, bpsc, fpsc, bobble3 and 4, picot.

A print friendly pdf is included.
