Innovation Shawl
“Filling a space in a beautiful way, that is what art is to me.” - Georgia O’Keeffe
The Innovation Shawl was designed for UP North Yarn’s 2026 Yarn Advent, which is based on the artwork of Georgia O’Keeffe.
O’Keeffe has been called the “Mother of Modernism.” Her innovative style successfully combined realism with abstraction to create paintings that feature large format, close up depictions of flowers, bones, and desert landscapes. Georgia O’Keeffe’s powerful use of color - from vibrant hues to subtle gradients - serve to evoke powerful emotions in those who view them.
The Innovation Shawl is a ¾ shaped shawl created from twelve mini skeins and one full skein of fingering weight yarn. The ¾ shape not only has an interesting design, but makes a shawl that is comfortable to wear. The colors of O’Keeffe’s paintings are represented in each of the beautiful mini skeins and stitch patterns. My hope is that while knitting this beautiful shawl, you will not only enjoy knitting with beautiful yarns, but will be inspired by the innovative 20th century artist - Georgia O’Keeffe.
Note: Because the yarn is a 2026 Advent skein set, the photos will be in black and white until December 2026.
