The working title for these socks was ‘plain feet and party legs’ which seemed to neatly sum up what I wanted from a knitting project at the time. I wanted a nice plain foot that would let me enjoy a beautiful self striping yarn in peace. And then to have a little bit of pattern on the leg – enough to keep me motivated and knitting but not enough to make me sigh and put it aside after a hard day.

A word of caution on the chevron pattern on the leg. Any type of chevron will invariably reduce the sideways stretch available in the sock. A little rib is added at the side of each chevron to accommodate this. However if you think you might need additional stretch you could either add 2 plain stitches to start/end of each needle (4 sts in total) or work a k1, p1 at the start/end of each needle in order to gain a little more wiggle room.

This toe-up design starts with Judy’s Magic cast-on and is written for the magic loop technique but is easily adapted for your preferred method of small-circumference knitting.
