Iota is a lightweight but cozy little cowl, perfect for throwing on on a chilly spring morning. Easy wearing and completely reversible, there is no wrong way to slip it on! The deceptively simple stitch pattern showcases gradient yarns perfectly, but would look equally as beautiful in a tonal or solid yarn.

This pattern is easily modifiable, just cast on any multiple of four stitches. For a heavier yarn weight, cast on less stitches, work less chart repeats, and use a needle size appropriate for your yarn.

Gauge is not super critical for this pattern, but my gauge (using US size 3 needles and 2x2 rib) is 22 stitches per 4 inches, after blocking.

Finished Size: 16” tall by 14.5” wide

I knit this cowl using one cake of Huckleberry Knit’s Gradient in the “Horse Heaven Hills” colorway. I had only about 10 yards left over after finishing. If your skein has less than 460 yards, I would work less repeats of the stitch pattern to ensure you have enough yarn to finish the cowl off.

I encourage you to try this pattern with nearly any single skein of fingering or light fingering weight yarn you have in your stash! I would stick to a yarn with either long color shifts (like a gradient cake), a tonal hand dye, or a solid. Very strong color variegation will likely obscure the stitch pattern.
