The Irene Sweater is named after an inspiring lady who was like an aunt to me. Irene made beautiful Aran knitwear and the cable sleeve design is a homage to her. Always full of life and fun, Irene was and still is a huge influence on my life. She may no longer be with us, but she is present in every cable I create.

Construction
Working from the top down, the garment is worked in the round in one piece. Raglan sleeves with the cable detail continue from the neck through to the cuff. The sleeves are separated at the armholes and placed on hold and completed after the main body. Short rows across the back of the sweater ensure the neck is a comfortable fit. The sweater is meant to be worn oversized so pick the size that will give you 3-4 inches of positive ease at the bust.

Modelled wearing a size 39” bust.

Other alternatives.
4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7) Skeins of Birdhouse Fibres Squish Sock, 85% Superwash merino and 15% nylon, 400m (437 yds) to 100g.

If substituting yarn, I would recommend choosing one that drapes and has great stitch definition so those cables really pop.
