I made this pattern using size 10 crochet cotton and a 1.5 mm hook. There is a fair bit of leeway with the thread and hook sizes and you can make a smaller purse using a smaller thread and hook. Use your best judgement with hook size. Tightly crochet as the lace will look best if well defined.
