The Polar Bear Mittens pattern is a free, beginner-friendly design worked in two colors. These mittens are inspired by the icy scenery of the Svalbard archipelago.

Adult sizing, generous fit; adjust yarn (aran to DK or sport-weight) and/or needles for smaller sizes. The sample measurements are: width approx. 10 cm and length approx. 25 cm.

Gauge: 28 stitches and 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm using 3,5 mm needles.

Yarn: The pattern calls for aran-weight yarn. The sample is made with Novita 7 Veljestä (approx. 200 m / 100 g) in the colorways “Navy 170” and “Sand 60”. Other suitable options include, among others, Drops Karisma and Sandnes Garn Smart. For the standard size, the yarn requirement is approximately 100 grams.

You will need: 2,5 mm and 3,5 mm needles, a yarn needle, scissors, and blocking pins.

Techniques include: two-color knitting/stranded colorwork, increases, decreases, catching long floats, working a thumb gusset and top shaping (crown decreases).

I’ve only had a few test knitters so if you notice any errors, typos or parts that could be phrased differently, please let me know!
