ISLANDS IN THE STREAM is a plush and warm modern cable-knit sweater, worked seamlessly from the top down. The defining feature of the design is the neckline, where the cables begin and continue all the way down to the hem and cuffs. The collar is folded double to the inside at the end, creating the illusion that the cables emerge from within the sweater.

The sweater begins at the neckline, after which the work is divided into the front and back sections, and cable panels are worked over both shoulders in a saddle-shoulder style. Once the shoulder cables are complete, stitches are picked up along the sides of the cables and the held neckline stitches are incorporated into the work.

The front and back are then worked alternately flat to the desired length before joining the piece at the underarms to continue in the round. The body is worked in the round and finished with ribbing. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves, incorporating the held shoulder cable, which continues seamlessly all the way to the cuffs.
