This is a bottom up, in the round striped beanie pattern with a stranded knitting portion in the middle. Because the pattern is in identical sections, it is easy to adjust for different sizes and weights of yarn.

Yarn:
No matter what yarn weight you use, you will need a 50 g. ball of white and blue yarn each. For an adult sized hat you will need:
Fingering weight: 23 g. (approx 110 yds.) blue, 15 g. (approx 79 yds.) white.
DK weight: 30 g. (approx 98 yds.) blue 25 g. (approx 75 yds.) white.
Worsted weight: 35 g. (approx 85 yds.) blue, and 36 g. (approx 70 yds.) white.

Gauge:
Fingering: With US size 3 (3.25 mm.) needles in a 4 in. by 4 in.(10 cm. by 10 cm.) stockinette square, 26 st across, 33 rows vertically. 3 5/16 in. (8 ½ cm.) across for a k19, p1 section.
Finished size in Extra Large: 9 in. (23 cm.) tall, laying flat 19 in. (48 cm) around, and 24 in. (61 cm.) stretched.
DK: With US size 3 (3.25 mm.) needles in a 4 in. by 4 in. (10 cm. by 10 cm.) stockinette square, 23 ½ st. across, 33 rows vertically. 3 ½ in. (9 cm.) across for a k19, p1 section.
Finished size in Large: 9 in. (23 cm.) tall, laying flat 20 ½ in. (52 cm.) around, 24 in. (51 cm.) stretched.
Worsted: With US size 5 (3.75 mm.) needles in 4 in. by 4 in. (10 cm. by 10 cm.) stockinette square, 21 st across, 29 rows vertically. 4 ¼ in. (11 cm.) across for a k19, p1 section.
Finished size in Medium: 8 ¾ in. (22 cm.) tall, laying flat 21 in. (53 ½ cm.) around, 24 in. (61 cm.) stretched.

SIZING GUIDE:
This hat has 4 different sizes, Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large, written as S, (M, L, XL) in the pattern throughout. Size Small has 56 rows, Medium 62, Large 71, and Extra Large 83. To create an adult large hat (exact sizes above), use M for worsted weight, L for DK, and XL for fingering yarn. Please check your own gauge for sizes. The cast on numbers are only suggestions: choose whichever one works for your gauge, regardless of size for the rest of the pattern.
