It's In The Edge

“Multi-Gauge Stockinette Pattern with Variations”, is what the pattern says. This is truly a single pattern, shown in several different yarns at any of four gauges. You get variations on whether you want it sleeveless, with short sleeves, or 3/4-length sleeves. It even gives you a variation on whether you want a cardigan-style with a V-neck, or a pullover style with a somewhat open round neck.

The numbers of rows and stitches are provided via a chart you read across; this is not a fill-in-your-own numbers pattern. Even the directions for working what sleeve you choose (if any) are provided in this way.

The finished measurements are 36”, 38.5”, 41” and 44”.

Two of the models shown were made with Provence and each of the others were made with different yarns. All are listed above but you only use one per sweater, as you choose. The pattern has charted directions where it provides different numbers of stitches to use, depending on whether you are using yarn weights of DK ( CE’s Believe, or Imagine), Worsted (Newport), Heavy Worsted (Fame, Illusion, Provence, Sand) or Super Bulky (Weekend Cotton).

The pattern has a schematic and does have waist shaping.

While the pattern is credited to Lori Gayle, it also states that the Petite Shell Edging is from Nicky Epstein’s book on Knitted Embellishments.
