To the fan of the BBC’s modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes, this line is quickly recognized as both an apology and a rare declaration of friendship. In any incarnation, though, Holmes and Watson make a unstoppable team, and this cowl represents the timeless duo. I have derived the chevron/cable combination from the cabling of John’s now-famous jumper, and replaced part of that pattern with a twisted-stitch DNA cable representing Sherlock’s scientific mind. It takes both of them together to make the unified scarf.

Instructions are included for two size options: a snugger, neck-hugging cowl, and a longer version that can be draped or doubled up for warmth.
