Discontinued. This digital pattern is no longer available online.

NOTE: Only the 6 roses in the first ring of roses have the circle of green(leaves) crocheted on before attaching. The 2nd round of roses attaches to the doily as you crochet the green, so you can’t do the green ahead of time, for the 2nd round of roses.

Hook USA #8

My grandmother, Josie Jacobsen Fromm, came from Germany and did not read patterns. She and most of the older grandmothers were crocheting rose doilies around 1950 when I was six years old. I wanted to make roses. She showed me how to crochet and we made a couple little doilies then. We didn’t make roses then, just chain doilies. I started crocheting in earnest when I was 18, and I looked and looked for a pattern like hers.

I never found any. Many many years later, I decided to put her doily on a copy machine and enlarge it so all the stitches showed. I counted the stitches and the rows. I was elated when it worked! I have made over a half dozen of these doilies. - Mary Lou Davis
