17½ sts and 27 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter st with Tempo (color B).
Gauge is not especially important to this project, but if your gauge differs from above, your finished shawl will have different finished measurements.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE
Short-rows (w&t): On purl rows, purl to where work was turned before, yarn over bringing yarn to front, slip next st, bring yarn to back, return slipped st to left needle, turn, then work next row as instructed. On the next row, work to the wrapped st, lift the back part of the wrap and place it on the left needle, then purl the wrap and stitch together.

NOTES
This shawl is worked from the bottom up, changing colors using short-rows that are only wrapped when beginning the first row of Bands 2, 4, 6 and 8. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches as work is increased. Work back and forth, and do not join.
