Although this design is labeled as a cowl, it could pulled down over your shoulders and worn as a cropped poncho. Additionally, it could be easily adapted to create a true poncho by adding in a few more increase rounds along with more length before the final border is worked.

Cowl measurements:
Size 1:

  • Neck Circumference: 24”/66 cm
  • Bottom Circumference: 64”/163 cm
  • Depth: 17”/43 cm

Size 2:

  • Neck Circumference 27’/69 cm
  • Bottom Circumference 80”/203 cm
  • Depth 19”/48 cm

This design begins with a ribbed cable pattern which means the neck can be worn straight or folded and look good both ways.

M1 increases are worked after the cable neck is complete and leads in to the charted Jagged Spiral color work yoke.

Once the yoke is completed, M1 increases are worked again which makes it possible for this cowl to be pulled over the shoulders providing the perfect amount of coverage to block the chill on Spring evenings.

The final border is a textured diamond pattern mirroring the diamonds in the colorwork sections and keeping the bottom edge from curling.

Color work is charted only.
Ribbed cable pattern and Diamond Texture patten are both written and charted.

Recommonded Cast on and Bind off are both Chinese Waitress methods and video links are provided in the pattern to demonstrate both techniques.

Optional stitch markers can be used to separate pattern repeats.
