The front of the mitten shows a portrait of the Irish writer James Joyce, made famous for writing the modernist novel Ulysses (published 1920).

On the cuff, we have the title of the book. Then, on the palm, we follow in the winding footsteps of Leopold Bloom, the main protagonist of Ulysses, as he walks through the streets of Dublin on Bloomsday, which is celebrated every year in Dublin.

The thumbs have Bloom’s walk continuing up to the top of the thumb and back down again. On the back of the thumbs, we have the initials LB for Leopold Bloom on the right thumb, and on the left we have MB for Molly Bloom, Leopold Bloom’s wife, who is the narrator of the very famous final chapter of the book.

These mittens are knitted in the round, with five double pointed needles, or using magic loop.
