I had socks that developed holes in the ankles. Instead of trying to darn them or throw them away, I cut away the ruined section and knit from the leg that was left to create hand warmers.

Because of the 2 by 2 rib, they are incredible stretchy and fit most hand sizes, including my 5-year-old and 6-foot tall friend.
