Jane Eyre is Charlotte Brontë’s classic tale of a young orphan, Jane, played by Mia Wasikowska. Growing up without parents, Jane is sent to a strict boarding school, where she endures many hardships. Later, she takes a position as governess to the daughter of the wealthy Mr. Rochester, played by Michael Fassbender, at his estate, Thornfield Hall. Jane falls in love with him, and we might expect a happy ending. But first, the two must overcome lies and long-held secrets before they can finally be together.
It is a beautiful film, with breathtaking cinematography and exquisite costumes – a period drama at its very best. Yet, it was the simple, warm shawl worn by Jane that caught my eye. Well, I am a knitter, after all! And this shawl is so easy to make that even a beginner can knit it…
