Retro and modern.
This traditional Fair Isle hat design is unisex and allows endless creations with the choice of colors.
The entire hat is knitted with fingerling weight yarn.
The traditional Fair Isle work is done with MC (main color) and CC (contrasting color), working with not more than 2 colors in each round.

Yarn - Please choose a little bit bigger side of sock yarn or fingerling weight yarn. 28sts/4”.
Unfortunately “USDK” is discontinued yarn. (The yarn says DK, but this is a fingerling weight yarn)
You need approximately 180 yards for base and 90 yards total for Fair Isle pattern.
Great project to use left over sock yarns too.
You could knit with minimum 2 colors or more colors like the sample (6 colors total). When you knit with more than 2 colors, you need to know which color will be MC and CC. CC is the pattern color, so you want to use the one that shows more on the background color (MC).

Sample – Base color – Beige
< Fair Isle pattern>
MC – Beige, Light blue, Yellow, Red
CC – Green, Dark blue, Red
Total 6 colors. Red is used both as MC and CC.

The pattern comes with a color chart. I recommend playing with the colors before you start knitting.

It’s a small yarn project, but once you start knitting the Fair Isle pattern, you cannot stop knitting!!
