This is my take on a hat that my infamous mother-in-law, Jean, bought in Ireland over 20 years ago. She handed me the hat and asked if I could make it for her and, of course, she wanted a few changes. I liked the hat and thought it would be a fun project to take it apart and figure out a pattern. I’ve updated it and made it with two different versions for the brim. The skinny brim version is so current while the wider brim takes on a Downton Abbey feel. I’m amazed that adding an inch to the brim could change the style of the hat so much.

I had expensive yarn left over when I finished the hat and decided that matching mittens would be a great way to use up the lovely tweed. I’ve included both patterns here but kept them separate so that you can use the patterns independent of each other.

Both of these patterns are for sale in my Ravelry store individually for $5.00 each. I’ve combined them here so that you can get both of them together for $7.50. What a great deal! You have Libby at Island Wools to thank for this. It was her idea to combine them and give a good price to knitters that want both patterns.
