The Joan Mittens are Joan of Arc-inspired mittens knit in stranded color work. I wanted to make some mittens that look a bit like medieval diptychs, and so was inspired to make these saintly medieval knight mittens.

This pattern uses fingering weight yarn, about 230 m of Color 1 and 230 m of Color 2 (460 m total). The blue yarn in the example is Knitting for Olive Merino in Navy and the cream/light yellow yarn used is Knitting for Olive Merino in Elderflower. I used one skein of yarn in each color.

The needles used are US size 1.5 needles (2.5 mm).

The gauge is 1” x 1” = 10 stitches x 10 rows.
This pattern is a woman’s M/L, one size fits all. The final mitten measures 11.25” from the tip of the mitten to the edge of the cuff, the circumference across the middle of the fingers is a little less than 9”.
