Finally, there is a Joanna Shawl! I knew when I started designing in these colourways from Mamie and Florrie that I should name this pattern after myself. If you’ve watched our podcast, you’ll know that I love a murky green. The design is simple but effective, the yarn and the stitch pattern combine to make a very squishy fabric which I’m looking forward to wrapping myself up in during the colder seasons.
The large crescent shawl & the cowl are created by knitting sideways, ensuring you never have too many stitches on your needle. The design is created by striping a broken rib pattern with an icord on each edge. Instructions for the cowl are at the end of the pattern.
Information
Yarn: 1 x 100g (425m) fingering weight sock yarn and 1 x 100g (400m) baby suri alpaca.
The shawl sample is knit using yarn from Mamie and Florrie in BFL sock in colour way Kicking the Leaves in Hyndland and Baby Suri in Cairngorm Plateau.
The cowl sample is knit in Regia Premium Silk Sock in the colour way 51 and Sandnes Garn Ballerina Chunky Mohair in the colour way Tutti Frutti 1010
Suggested Needles: US 4/3.5mm or needles required to get gauge.
Gauge: unblocked: 26 sts x 40 rows to 10cm/4” over broken rib pattern; blocked: 20 sts x 36 rows to 10cm/4” over broken rib pattern. Gauge is less important in a shawl, however, if your gauge is looser than specified more yarn will be required.
Measurements: Shawl: approximately 225 cm/90” wingspan, 50cm/20” depth.
Cowl: 60cm/24” circumference 50cm/20” depth
