Sometimes, a change is as good as a rest! And using a different yarn base can be a fun way to create a new version of an old favourite. When I saw this slubby yarn and how gorgeously it took colour, I knew I needed to make a cowl with it and the end result is a drapey and lightweight cowl which is perfect for those cooler mornings and evenings in spring and autumn. I love the texture and irregularity of knitting with slub - it’s a way to let your fun side show.

For a change, I decided to work a rolled edge on this cowl as I wasn’t sure it would suit ribbing. That means the pattern is so very simple as you just need to cast on and get knitting. I used the whole skein of yarn as I like my cowls quite long and reasonably narrow so they bunch up at my neck, but if you prefer a wider and shallower depth of cowl, cast on more stitches until you get to your desired circumference.

I haven’t blocked my cowl as the size feels right for me as it is. If you want to block yours, please remember it may change the texture and appearance of the slubby fabric so I’d recommend testing with a small swatch beforehand if possible.
