This pattern was inspired by the Disney movies of Coco, Lion King and Moana. The sections within this pattern reflect different parts of these movies.

The Sunshine and Sun Rays sections reflect the sun rising over the savannah in Lion King.
The Swirl section is based off the swirls on Miguel’s guitar in Coco.
The Mesh and Wave sections reflect Moana’s voyager ancestry.

The main theme in all of these movies is learning lessons from our family that has come before us. This theme has been central in my life since my Grandfather, Joy passed away. This pattern was named in his honor. He taught me so much, and I hope the lessons I learned from him will always help guide me.

Additionally, within the Coco Swirl section, you may have some rolling on the edges. I personally love stockinette, but I realize many people do not like the look of the rolling. To fix this, on the purl rows in this section, feel free to knit the first and last two stitches to help prevent any rolling on the sides. You should enjoy what you knit!
