Juliana's Hat
This pattern is based on my own head, to make a beanie-style hat. Here are the numbers:
• 22.5” around (top of forehead, behind ears, to nape of neck, back to forehead--i.e. where I have my beanies sit when I wear them)
• 7” from base of ear to top of head
• used size 9 (5.5 mm) circular needles
• the yarn I used was thrifted years ago, and didnt come with any information, so I just had to guess what needles would give me the firm knit I wanted--but with size 9 needles, in stockinette stitch, I got 4 stitches per inch. That got me 88 stitches for a 22” brim (I rounded down). Again! This is for a looser fit--you might want to tighten it up if you do not also have giant hair.
PATTERN:
• Cast on 88 stitches
• K2, P2 in the round for 2”
• Knit every row in the round until piece measures 5” from beginning.
• Knit around, placing a stitch marker every 15 stitches (last marker will be at the start of your row, and will also be 13 stitches from last marker, cuz math)
• Knit to 2 stitches before stitch marker, and k2tog. Rep to end of round (6 decreases total)
• Knit whole row, not working any decreases.
• Continue last two rows for 1.5” (total 6.5” from beginning)
• Work decrease row every row until 16 stitches.
• Sew together remaining stitches and weave in ends. Make a pom-pom and attach if desired.
Now leave it on your sister’s door handle so she will see it when she wakes up because you stayed up until 1am finishing it!!!!
