Julie Kardi
20% OFF with the code FRIENDS until the end of July 19th(CST).
This cardigan is named after my best friend Julie, who is kind, generous, and professionally sarcastic. This cardigan got its name when she laughed and said, “Let’s just call it the Julie Cardi.” I swapped the C for a K, and the Julie Kardi was born.
The Julie Kardi is worked seamlessly from the top down with a circular yoke and an all-over garter-based mosaic pattern that’s easier than it looks. Knit it in two high-contrast colors for a bold graphic look, or use leftovers, mini skeins, gradients, or color-changing yarn to create a one-of-a-kind cardigan. Choose from four sleeve options, from cap sleeves to full-length sleeves, to make it perfect for any season.
YARN: Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply
(100% SW Merino, 400 yd / 3.9 oz (365m / 110g) skeins
or any similar fingering weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors.
You can find approximate yarn requirements for each size, body length, and sleeve option in the table below.
NEEDLES:
- Main Fabric: US #4/ 3.5 mm –24”/60 cm to 40”/100 cm circular
- Ribbing: US #2 / 2.75 mm - 16” / 40 cm or shorter circular for the neckline, 32-40”/80-100 cm for the hem and button bands, and preferred needles for small circumference knitting for cuffs.
- Sleeves: US 5/ 3.75 mm – preferred needles for small circumference knitting (such as Magic Loop or DPNs)
Note that needle sizes are suggested only. You may need to use a different size to achieve gauge. The Ribbing needle should be 2 US sizes smaller than the Main Fabric needle.
NOTIONS:
Small buttons (0.5-0.6”/ 12-15 mm), stitch markers, row counter (recommended), scissors, darning needle, waste yarn or stitch holders.
GAUGE:
24 sts & 48 rows = 4”/10 cm in Mosaic Pattern on Main needles.
Always knit a gauge swatch before beginning your project. Measure your swatch before washing, then block it without stretching or distorting the fabric. Allow the swatch to dry completely before measuring it again. Compare the pre-blocking and post-blocking measurements to understand how the fabric changes and to ensure your gauge matches the pattern requirements. Keep in mind that garter stitch mosaic fabric is very stretchy in all directions, so accurate measurements are especially important.
