Up until now, every sock I have designed was done to meet a set of criteria – either a challenge in one of the many different forums I frequent on Ravelry, or a request for a sock club design. This design is different - this is my first ever “just because” design. I was flipping through my stitch dictionaries and came across a pattern that “spoke” to me. I did a couple of quick sketches and started knitting, and this is the result.

This sock is worked top-down and combines slipped stitches, a simple lace pattern and either beads for a bit of sparkle (on the leg only), small bobbles if bling isn’t your thing or simple purl stitches if you don’t want the texture of the bobbles. The pattern dips into the heel flap to give it a bit of flair, and the lace pattern gives the finished product a nice stretch.

The pattern is written for ladies’ sizes Small (Medium, Large) which I expect to fit a foot which, at its widest point, measures approximately 16.5cm/6.5” (19cm/7.5”, 21.5cm/ 8.5”) in circumference.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has left a comment on this design - i am overwhelmed by all the lovely compliments! For those of you who haven’t tried beading before, it’s really not that difficult, and this sock is the perfect one to try it because there aren’t that many beads in total.
